St Francis Persian Rescue is a small independent cat rescue charity based in the Bedale area of North Yorkshire in the UK. As our name suggests we specialise in the rescue and re-homing of Persian and other longhaired breeds of cat.

Although we are based in North Yorkshire we consider ourselves a national group. Indeed our supporters and helpers come from all over the country.

We have NO PAID OFFICIALS.

Our new cattery is now open an taking in rescue cats. As always seems to be the case with we charities, we are appealing to all you kind visitors to this web-site to see if you can afford to send a little towards the money we have paid out for this. And towards helping re-furbish the old cattery, which is not above redemption if we can throw a little (more!) cash around. We realize people have been generous with us so far and don't like to keep asking but it is for the cats, and, sadly, the numbers coming in never seem to diminish.

Another area where money seems always to be spent is on the cats we end-up not being able to re-home. These are the older cats. Once they get to double figures in the age department would-be new homes tend to go out the window! Though I have to say, some of our most characterful cats tend to be the old fogies! It's as though they get a new lease of life, they lull us into thinking they're on their last legs, find a comfy settee to kip on and that's it. . . revitalized cat! But, whether they slip into "kitten" mindset or not, you do tend to have one or two more problems with  older cats, kidney wear and tear being the most frequent. Fortekor is now available for cats with iffy kidneys(not PKD) but this needs a vet to prescribe it and, uh, oh! a bit more goes on the bill. We try not to look at bills these days, but they seem t! o go up far easier than they come down, but we cannot complain about the brilliance of our vets . . . you know who you are!!

Just to tug at your heart-strings a little here are a few tales of permanent residents, I will try not to waffle too much . . .
ZSA ZSA has been with us for about 18 months now. We kept her because she has PKD(polycystic kidney disease). You never know how long a cat will live with this, Zsa is doing well thus far, though has lost a little weight just recently. She is fed on demand . . . and she does demand! She is lovely with the other cats, never a paw raised in violence!
LAVENDER (Lavvy to her chums!) is now 20, eating for England and fat as butter! She has foot trouble. A few months ago she was visiting the vets every other day to be bandaged as her large pad just died and the vet chopped it off! None of us thought it would heal, but, the whole pad grew back! Even the vet was pretty amazed, obviousl! y her strength of character got her through, either that or she fell for the vet big-time and wanted to impress him!!
THE FOLLOWING CATS ARE IN NEED OF GOOD HOMES
These cats are available now for re-homing, there will be others when veterinary treatment has been completed.

MISCHA 5 year old Cameo Persian female. Fully vaccs, spayed. Very loving and affectionate, loves to sleep on knees and beds and is quite happy to be combed! Again, needs to go to a home where she is the only cat and is better with older rather than younger children.
SOPHIE and PASHA These two need to be re-homed together and are absolutely stunning to look at!
Sophie 7 year old Chocolate Tortie Smoke, fully vaccs and spayed.
Pasha 8 year old Chocolate, fully vaccs and spayed.
Both have had dentals. They are very affectionate and very attatched to each other, as they are older, again, older children within a household would be better than younger.
Other, non-persians available

KIZZY 2 year old Maine Coon cross female, black. Fully vaccinated, very loving and friendly but needs to be re-homed as an only cat. Very good with older, rather than younger children.

HELP URGENTLY NEEDED

We are in desperate need of financial support. As a charity we are one of the last in the country specialising in this wonderful breed of cat. Earlier this year a charity specialising in Persians closed throwing even more work onto us. Our vet bill is now very high and we have to face the possibility if we cannot raise more income of having to close ourselves next year.

THANKYOU . . . in advance . . . for your generosity. And THANKYOU to all the people who have made donations thus far, both those we know and those who have chosen to remain anonymous. All you send us is put to good use and doesn't go t! owards paying for anything other than "catstuff", vets bills, food, litter and the likes, we don't take anything out for expenses . . . the cats would find out and we'd be made to pay!!!!

We are still desperately seeking sponsorship so please consider our “Pledge a Pound for a Persian” scheme, without your help we will not be able to continue with our work, thanks to those of you who are already pledging to us. With your help our valuable work can continue. For more information on our work and how you can help us please use the index on the left of the screen to look around our site.

In order to keep our rescue work going, we need help in the following areas .
